Customer Insights: A fast, effective and environmentally sustainable HLD solution
In the first of our Customer Insights series, we talk to Genevieve Carbonatto, Emergency Physician at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, about why she chose the Hypernova Chronos for her department and her experiences with the system.
What ultrasound procedures are commonly carried out at Royal Prince Albert emergency department?
We use ultrasound for a variety of emergency procedures and for diagnosis, including for trauma, vascular access and echocardiograms.
What were you using before the Chronos, and why did you decide to move away from that solution?
Before we switched to the Chronos we had been using a hydrogen peroxide system for about 12 months. The main reason we decided to change was speed - the hydrogen peroxide system was taking up to 35 minutes to reprocess probes. In an emergency department that is just not practical, in terms of manpower or time, so we were barely using it.
We also wanted something that was quick and easy to use. The hydrogen peroxide system was really complex; we wanted a solution that everyone could use and that would be more responsive to our needs.
Can you share with us your experiences with the Chronos?
The Chronos is great, it’s excellent.
In ED, our doctors just don’t have 35 minutes, we have one minute. The Chronos 90-second disinfection cycle means that we have more time with our patients, and we can keep an eye on what is happening on the floor while the probe is being processed.
We’ve moved from a system that was so slow and complex that it was barely used, to one that all of our doctors have adopted because it is so quick and easy.
Who would you recommend Chronos to, and why?
I would recommend the Chronos for any emergency department. The workflow makes it much easier to look after patients. It is an easy, clean process - definitely buy It!
I think that environmental impact is also very important to consider. With the Chronos, you are not using all those chemicals. We all have a responsibility to reduce the number of chemicals we use and the waste we produce. If we removed chemicals from just one department in every hospital in Australia, and then worldwide, the cumulative effects would be significant. I feel the same about plastic covers and other waste products, we should all be trying to reduce the number of consumables we use.
We want to support organisations that have thought about these things and are developing products and services that will benefit the environment. If we could spoil ourselves it would be great to have two Chronos systems in our department, in different locations, but we are happy to have one!
